Janette Alma Thompson (née Lowry) of Huron Township died peacefully, Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton, in her 77th year. Beloved wife of Murray Thompson. Most amazing grandmother of Drew, Kody, Jami, Morgan, Ethan, Lauren, Rachel, Sadie, Reid, Rhys, and Kelsey. Missed by her siblings, Marlene, David (Shirley), Lynn (Donna), Wayne (Patt), Carl, Elliot (Ellen), and Corinne (Gene). Predeceased by brother, Perrin Lowry, and his wife, Marion; brother-in-law, Elmer MacKenzie; and sister-in-law, Gayle Lowry. Others who will miss her warm personality, great meals and hospitality, are many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbours. Janette grew up in Huron Township with a huge family. She has memories of many people around the table and had a real fondness for animals, including her pony, Champ. She went to Laugheed School of Business in Kitchener, and then married Murray Thompson in 1966. They started their life together on the 2nd of Huron Twp., later settling in Pine River where they raised their family and farmed for close to 50 years. Janette was a friendly face at Ripley Superior for many years before working at the Kincardine hospital until her retirement. She was known for her hospitable personality, often inviting more than initially planned to join around the table, and pulling it off with ease. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome in her presence. An incredible cook, she was fondly remembered for her warm chocolate chip cookies, apple pies, tarts, canned peaches, and applesauce. She held onto her sense of humour and strong faith until her final moments. She loved walking on the beach, and sunsets were her favourite. Janette made the world a better place for those who knew her, and for that she will be remembered. A private family service will take place at the Pine River United Church, Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at 11 a.m. A Zoom link, to view the service remotely, will be made available on the church’s website and the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home website prior to the service, as well as a recorded video following the service.
