John Angus “Cowboy” McKay of Tara, died peacefully at home in his sleep, with his loving family by his side, Nov. 19, 2021, in his 67th year. Born in Kincardine July 28, 1955, John was a man who loved - his family, his friends, a good western movie, a cup of coffee, cracking jokes, and making people laugh. Oh, how he loved to make people laugh. He carried laughter with him wherever he’d go, like a secret weapon he could use to cheer someone up, or get himself out of trouble. The strongest man you ever met, who could take the weight of the world and let it slide off effortlessly without letting it show that there was ever any struggle. He could make you see the sun where you once saw clouds and taught you to never dwell on the should-haves and the what-if’s. He was about embracing every minute and enjoying it to the fullest without a care for what others might have to say about him. Every single person who crossed his path shared in at least one funny (albeit, sometimes inappropriate) joke or conversation, no matter the length - another testament to his ability to be in the now and leave people feeling happy with smiles on their faces. He will be missed by so many, but he’s had the ride of his life, and in moving onto his next adventure, he has left a world full of laughter and smiles. Dearly loved husband of Lori Reid. Loving son of Angus and Audrey McKay of Tiverton. Cherished father of Josie Venne-Hershey (Tyler Hershey) of Owen Sound, Jeanna Crawford (Sean) of Kincardine, Alexina “Bub” McKay (Brian Akins) of Sauble Beach, William Hazen (Jacqui Kundert) of Alberta, Thomas Hazen of Owen Sound and Michael Hazen of Port Elgin. Adored grandpa of Autumn, Jonathan, Jesse, Terran, Austin, Paige, Reece, Abby, Lily, Angus “Gus”, Joshua, Nolan, Peyton and Brooklynn “Turd”. Loved brother of Sandra “Sissy” Smith of Tiverton, and the late Joanie McKay. Adored brother-in-law of Kenny Reid (late Ola) of Owen Sound, Kevin “Partner in Crime” Reid (Gerry) of Owen Sound, Keith Reid (Connie) of Collingwood, Lisa Hamilton (Mark) of Owen Sound and Mike Reid (Cathy) of Owen Sound. John will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cremation is taking place and a celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date; arrangements entrusted to the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to PRANCE (Pegasus Riding Association Nurturing Challenged Equestrians) would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home. Condolences can be sent to John’s family by visiting his on-line memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca. I am sending a dove to heaven, with a parcel on its wings, Be careful when you open it, it’s full of beautiful things. Inside are a million kisses, wrapped up in a million hugs To say how much I miss you, and send you all my love. I hold you close within my heart, and there you will remain To walk with me throughout my life until we meet again. Happy Trails, Cowboy! |
