Donna (Colwell) Ziegler of Port Elgin, formerly of Bervie, died peacefully, with her three children by her side, Jan. 8, 2022, at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton. She was 93. She was born June 9, 1928, at home on the family farm in Bervie. Loving and proud mother of Karen Prentice; Richard and his wife, Lisa; and Paul and his wife, Frankie. Sadly missed by her grandchildren, Christina (John Scott), Cassia (Ryan Gellatly), Kate, Grace, Sarah, Addison (Lindsey), Dave (Melissa) and Megan (Jeff Dow); and great-grandchildren, Jack, Caeleigh, Leah, Mitchell, Collins and Harvey. Predeceased by her loving husband, Earle Ziegler; her parents, Irene and Frank Colwell; her sister, Jean (Orville Trowse); her brother, Huston; and her son-in-law, Jim Prentice. Donna’s teaching career was varied with positions in one-room school houses, a school in Leaside, Toronto, and ultimately, in Port Elgin where she met her future husband, Earle. After marriage and having children, she supported Earle in the family business. They travelled together, and ultimately, retired and wintered in Florida where they had many friends and visits from family. Donna loved sports. She played baseball and basketball when she was young and became an avid Blue Jays fan. She bowled, curled, golfed and loved to dance. She excelled at bridge and other card games, continuing to play into her 90s. The family thanks her VON PSWs who enabled Donna to live in her own home for all but the last several weeks of her life; the staff at Tiverton Park Manor and Huron Shores Hospice team and volunteers. In honour of Donna’s wishes, no funeral will be held. A family celebration of life and interment service at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Huron Shores Hospice or the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation CT Scanner project. On-line condolences may be made at www.greybrucecremation.com. |
