Ruth May Hirtenfeld (nee Colling) died peacefully at Trillium Court Seniors’ Community in Kincardine, June 11, 2022. She was 72. Survived by her daughters, Rachel (Brad Mackay), and Sarah (Scott Martyn); sister, Georgina Dean (Ted); and brother, Herbert Colling (Anne); grandsons, Quinn and Asher; and nieces, Christian (Ian Clelland) and Sophie Colling. She will be missed by many special friends, including Adele and John Kaminski, Bonnie Wheeler and Margret Courtney. Ruth was born in Orillia and raised in Midland where she attended Midland Secondary School, and was an avid reader, and dog lover. She married David in 1970 and travelled the world with her family, enjoying many entrepreneurial projects and visits along the way. Ruth served as a fierce school board trustee, past member of Beta Sigma Phi, and volunteer around the Kincardine area for many years. She will be remembered for her partnership in Mothers Helpers Daycare, and her eclectic retail store, 'Bits and Pieces,' in Kincardine, and later Mildmay. In her later years, she enjoyed being a driver for the Children’s Aid Society, as well as house-sitting and pet-sitting. The eldest daughter of Charles and Gene Colling, she shared her parents' love of antiques and collectibles. She especially loved collecting seahorses and books. Cremation to take place. Celebration of Life, Monday, June 20, at Somerhill Golf Club, 2483 Highway 21, Tiverton. Everyone is welcome to attend this 'come and go' from 4-7 p.m. Donations in her honour can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice. |
