Robert “Cecil” Sutton of Huron Township, died at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the age of 87. Born in Melbourne, Ontario, June 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Lyman and Pearl Sutton. Survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Ellen “Wilma” Sutton (nee King). Greatly missed by his sons, Charles Robert Sutton and Cecil Rodney Sutton; and daughter, Tammy Georgina Lynn Murray (husband, Brad Murray). Proud Grandpa of Damon and Dylan Murray. Fondly remembered by his siblings, Bud Sutton of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Garry (Donna) Sutton of Lucknow, Jean (Allan) Gilmore of Ottawa and John (Debbie) Sutton of Teeswater; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings, Ruth (Jan) Bruinooge, Joan (Charles) Murray and Charles Sutton. The unofficial “Mayor of Purple Grove,” Cecil farmed all his life, and was the final reeve of the Village of Ripley. He also served on Huron Township council before it was amalgamated into Huron-Kinloss. He and Wilma operated Courtney Farm Supplies and Wilma’s Corner for 35 years in downtown Ripley, before retiring in 2018. Visitation will be held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley, Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 2-5 p.m. The funeral will be held in the chapel, Sunday, July 3, 2022, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment, Ripley Cemetery.
