DAVID STANLEY YALDEN

After a long illness, David Stanley Yalden of Kincardine, died quietly, Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at the age of 93, with his devoted and caring wife of 59 years, Shiela, by his side. He is sadly missed by Shiela, and lovingly remembered by his children, Ruth (Jim Thorpe), David, Neil (Darla), Hugh (Simona), and Mark (Alexis Gallant); and his granddaughters, Alice, Lucy, Evah, Shae, and Alexandra. Also remembered by Sue and the Gubala family (Bob, Robert and Jenny); his nephew, Wayne King; and the Sorley family, Andrew (Janet, William, and Thomas), Alison and John. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Ralph; sister, Grace; and niece, Karen. Dave was born in 1929 and raised in Toronto where he studied chemistry at the University of Toronto. He worked for a short period of time in mining before pursuing a career at Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL) at Chalk River. It was there that he met and married Shiela, and they settled first in Pembroke, and then in Pinawa, Manitoba, where he was employed as a chemical technician at Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment. He loved his time in Manitoba and spoke of Pinawa often. After accepting a position at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development’s Heavy Water Plant, Dave and Shiela chose to move once more, finally settling in Kincardine. It was here that they raised their five children a few blocks from the shores of Lake Huron and his favourite beach. He completed his career at Bruce A in 1992. Dave’s greatest passions were the outdoors, his art, Airedale Terriers, reading, and following Canadian politics. He deeply believed in accountable government and each person’s responsibility to vote. His greatest accomplishment was creating a stable and happy environment in which his children were able to flourish and enjoy small town life. Dave was a proud member of Northern Light Lodge, No. 93, Kincardine. There will be a private family service conducted at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, at a later date. The Yalden family gives special thanks to Dr. Gary Gurbin and the staff at Trillium Court Seniors’ Community, for the exceptional care and kindness Dave received.
