Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Johnston (nee McNeil) died peacefully, with her devoted husband at her side, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, just a few weeks before her 88th birthday. Cherished wife of Robert “Bob” Johnston for 68 years. Beloved mother of Karen Langen (Jens), Kevin, Douglas (Heather) and Daniel (Paula). Fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, eight great?grandchildren and two great?great?grandchildren. Betty was born on a farm near Whitechurch, Dec. 8, 1934. She was the eldest of four children born to Laura and Malcolm McNeil. She is survived by her brother, Crawford; and predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Peterson and Shirley Trafelet. From 1955 until one year ago, Betty and Bob lived in Kincardine. She was an active member of the United Church Women (UCW) and had many good friends there. She was down to earth, easy to be with, and always made everyone feel comfortable. She was quick to laugh, didn’t take herself seriously, had a big, soft heart and was always happy to hold a baby. Although a stroke two years ago affected her ability to say the things she wanted, the one phrase she could always say, clearly and often was, “I love you dear.” We always knew that she loved us, and we loved her in return. The Johnston family is enormously grateful to the wonderful staff at the Southampton Care Centre for all of the compassionate care and support for Betty and Bob. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, from Noon to 1:30 p.m. The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m., with refreshments afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Betty’s memory, to the Kincardine Food Bank. |
