Hilda Janzen of Kincardine died peacefully, Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton, after a brief diagnosis with cancer. She was 92. She was a valiant fighter having miraculously survived cancer twice in 1986, and was always hopeful of a recovery while secure in her relationship with Jesus and the dream of Heaven. Born May 28, 1930, in Central Butte, Saskatchewan, she moved with her parents and six siblings to Elm Creek, Manitoba, on her 13th birthday in 1943. She had fond memories of growing up in both Central Butte and Elm Creek and frequently shared stories about her life with her siblings. Hilda went to Normal School in Winnipeg to become a teacher and upon graduation, taught multiple grades in a one-room school in Fortier. She met Jack Janzen at church in Elm Creek and they were married July 25, 1953, in a double wedding with her sister, Elsie and Jake Enns. Hilda continued to teach school until she had children and later worked as a supply teacher in what is now called the Prairie Rose School Division. Jack and Hilda were farmers their entire life together and she was a valued farmhand, working as a combine driver during harvest time. They moved to southern Ontario in 1990 and continued to work together at farm shows all over southern Ontario. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. She loved to bake and cook for her family and others. She was always excited to check out the latest cookbooks. Hilda leaves to mourn, her husband of 69 years, Jack; son, Stan and Lynda (Jeremy and Margaret, Michael, Brock and Declan); son-in-law, Phil and Connie (Brent, Tara, Kenzie, and Austin, Blaine and Amanda, Darren, Erin and Callahan); daughter, Heather and Ron (Shaye); brother, Henry (Elinore); sister, Paulette Giesbrecht; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter, Sharon (September, 2007); her parents; sisters, Elsie, Lydia and Kay; brothers, Alvin and Ernie; and several in-laws. Our wife and mom, Hilda, is in Heaven now - free of blindness due to macular degeneration, free of cancer and free to roam where the skies are always blue, the wind is calm and there is no chance of precipitation – where every day is a fair weather day. A celebration to honour Hilda's life will be held at the Lighthouse Fellowship Baptist Church, Kincardine, Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steven Gordon officiating. Special thanks to Dr. Jason Murray and staff at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, and the staff and volunteers of Huron Shores Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Huron Shores Hospice or a charity of your choice; arrangements entrusted to the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine; www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com. |
