JEAN MILDRED DENT (nee SMITH)

Jean Mildred Dent (née Smith) of Tiverton, died peacefully at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Chesley, Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Alan Dent (2003). Loving mother of Joan Dent, Bill Dent (Gwen), Janice Cockburn (Les) and Jim Dent (Kim). Cherished grandmother of Brad Dent (Katie), Jason Dent (Gillian), Jayne Cockburn, John Cockburn, Heather Dent (Tobias) and Anthony Dent. Great-grandmother of Harper, Holden, Annabelle, Christian, Rosalie, Felicity and Sterling. Fondly remembered by her friend and sister-in-law, Alberta Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Millie (née Shewfelt) Smith; brother, John Smith; and sisters, Eunice Farrell (Murray) and Christena Scott (Bob). Jean was born March 18, 1927, in Sedalia, Alberta. In 1939, Hugh and Millie Smith moved their family to Kincardine Township, eventually moving to their farm on the boundary, and Jean later became a teacher in Elderslie Township and Bruce Township schools. In 1949, she married Alan Dent and dedicated her life to family and community. She was an active member at Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton, participating in children’s group, Sunday School, church suppers and the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS), as well as the Tiverton Rebekah Lodge, all while raising her family on the farm. Jean’s family will receive friends at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Friday, March 31, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton, Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Richard Warne officiating. Reception to follow. Spring interment, Tiverton Cemetery. The family thanks the staff at the Kincardine and Chesley hospitals for their compassionate care of Jean. In lieu of flowers donations in Jean’s memory, to the Canadian Food Grains Bank or the Kincardine Food Bank, would be appreciated.
