Eleanor Lorraine (née Barfoot) Askin, formerly of Kincardine, died peacefully at Caressant Care, Harriston, with her daughter by her side, Friday, April 28, 2023, in her 94th year. Devoted wife of the late John Askin. Loving mother of Randy and Darlene Askin of London, Sharon and Paul McKnight of Harriston and Wayne and Melissa Askin of Gowanstown. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Stacey (Jordan), Lindsey (Ryan), Patrick, Brock (Jacqueline), Jacob (Krya), and Clark; and step-grandson, Carmeron (Sarah). Great-grandmother of Myles, Jack, Greyson, Jake, and Layla. Survived by her twin sister, Eileen Cruickshank of Owen Sound; brother, Nelson (Faye) Barfoot of Kitchener; and sister, Marjorie Givens of Owen Sound. Predeceased by her parents, Norman and Mary (née Anderson) Barfoot of Owen Sound; brothers, Elmer and Ronald Barfoot; brothers-in-law, Robert Cruickshank and Donald Givens; and sister-in-law, Molly Barfoot. Eleanor was born July 30, 1929, in Owen Sound. She married John Askin in June, 1952, and they resided in Owen Sound until 1960, when they and their two children started a new adventure in Kincardine. She lived in the house they built until 2012. Her family and home were the focus of her life. She was a proud mother and even prouder grandmother. She always cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. A true hockey mom, she was always willing to transport players to and from hockey games. Eleanor enjoyed curling, playing darts, snowmobiling, cards, camping and later in life, she took up playing golf with her husband. She will be missed and never forgotten. Visitation will take place at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Friday, May 5, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m., with Rev. Gord Dunbar officiating. Eleanor will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. |
