Joyce Louise Smith of Kincardine, died with family by her side, at Huron Shores Hospice, Tiverton, Monday, July 31, 2023, at the age of 74. Beloved wife of the late Norman “Ted” Smith. (2017). Stepmother of Michael Smith (Lise), and Karen Smith. “Grandma Pumpkin” of Patrick Smith (Emma) and Catherine Smith; and great-grandmother of Alex and Sam. Dear sister of Norman Porritt (Linda), and sister in-law of Louise Porritt. Predeceased by her parents, Margaret (nee Jackson) and Rev. Ralph Porritt; brother, Rosslyn Porritt; and stepson, Craig Smith. Joyce was sociable and enjoyed chatting and being with people. She played bridge and the piano, and sang with a women’s a cappella group. She loved jewellery and had a closet full of beautiful items. For many years, she was the owner of Jay’s 5th Avenue, a women’s clothing store in downtown Kincardine. Besides being a business owner, she was known for delivering the odd bouquet of flowers, selling Combined Insurance, and was a very capable bookkeeper. With her beloved Ted, Joyce travelled and lived in many places; she saw Morocco, Libya, Indonesia and the Philippines, to name just a few. Perhaps all this travelling gave Joyce her excellent sense of direction. If you needed to get somewhere, she was the ideal co-pilot. The original GPS, she knew where she was, how to get there and all the short cuts along the way. Joyce was connected to her community, and those whose lives she touched along the way will remember her fondly. She will be missed by her family and her friends. A special thank you to those who cared for her - doctors, hospital and hospice staff, and friends. We, Joyce’s family, cannot thank you enough for your kindness and compassion. Visitation will be held at the Anglican Church of the Messiah, 421 Russell Street, Kincardine, Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, from 10-11 a.m., where the memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Reception in the church hall following the interment service at the Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to Huron Shores Hospice, the Anglican Church of the Messiah in Kincardine, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
