Dale Martin, formerly of Ripley and Kincardine, died peacefully at the Huronview Home for the Aged, Clinton, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, at the age of 73. Fondly remembered by his stepsons, Wade (Sue) Linklater and Wyatt Linklater; sister, Linda (Kelly) Kelledjian; brother, Dennis (Kathy) Martin; and sister-in-law, Christine Martin. Missed by his grandchildren, Saige, Caleb, Kelton, Charlotte, Scot and Alexis; and great-granddaughter, Ocean. Survived by his nieces and nephews, Michele (Matthew), Dianne (Barry), Liza (Kevin), Sarah, Brandon (Lindsay), Matthew (Brittany) and Dana. Predeceased by his parents, Gordon (2004) and Ora (2005) (née Kilgour) Martin; brother, Glen Martin (1992); and nephew, Jeff Hughes. Dale had an interest in sports right from his days in high school. In Grade 11, he was selected as Athlete of the Year and attended the training course at the Ontario Athlete Leadership Camp in Northern Ontario. He religiously followed his favourite professional teams year-round. At a local level, he also played sports and enjoyed coaching his stepsons in baseball and hockey. Dale graduated from Grade 13 at Ripley District High School and then graduated from Teacher’s College in Stratford. He went on to work for Continental Insurance and the Bank of Montreal, and some area farmers before finding his true calling in life which was working for, and leasing, the UPI Gas Bar in the north end of Kincardine for approximately 25 years. Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a private memorial service. Final resting place, Kincardine Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Kincardine Minor Hockey would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. |
