Oral Marena Cameron of London, formerly of Kincardine, died Aug. 6, 2023, at the age of 91. Born at Kincardine hospital in 1932, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Verna Finlayson. Predeceased by her husband, Murray Cameron; her son, Scott; her sister, Virene Thompson; and brothers-in-law, Gordon and Delmar Cameron and Alvin Thompson. Oral was deeply dedicated to her nursing career. Graduating in 1951 from Ryerson Institute in Toronto, she worked in seven hospitals around the province, following her husband’s bank transfers. She retired from her much-loved Operating Room position at Humber Memorial Hospital in Weston in 1995 and relocated and settled in London in 1997. Over her 91 years, her attention to detail, an immense sense of fashion and love of adventure, shaped her life. Her travels included over a dozen countries and a spate of states and provinces. If there was a bus, train, plane or cruise ship, she jumped at the chance. Her life was full of fun, mischief, and curiosity and she loved a good laugh. She was an avid participant at the London Kiwanis Seniors Community Centre and the Newcomers Alumnae. Oral died peacefully at University Hospital in London. She was loved and will be deeply missed by her daughter, Susan; sister, Marilyn (Bob) Johnston; sisters-in-law, Marina and Sheila Cameron; and an abundance of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. She will also be missed by friends and neighbours who are grateful to have had Oral in their lives. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to the residents and staff at Royalcliffe Retirement Residence. And our immense gratitude to the dedicated, compassionate staff at the London Health Sciences Centre for the care and support in her final hours. Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley. The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the London Health Sciences Foundation, London Regional Cancer Research Program, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. |
