Brian James Johnston of Lucknow died Sept. 20, 2023, at the age of 75. Born in Lucknow, Oct. 9, 1947, he was the second of seven children born to J.C. and Joyce Johnston. Brian created a life in Lucknow through hard work, dedication, and commitment. He attended George Brown College where he was recognized as the top student. He began his career as an iron worker but later followed his passions in multiple directions, knowing that hard work and dedication were the keys to being successful. In 1969, he married Linda and they had three children, Michelle (John), Jamie (Stephanie), and Michael (Laura). Brian and Linda also devoted themselves to their niece and nephew, Steven (Laura) and Melissa (predeceased). Above all, the role Brian took the most pride in was as protector and caretaker of his family. Like all his roles, he led by example, first to his siblings, Tony, Donny, Murray, Joyce Anne, Sandra and Brenda (predeceased), and then later on with his own family, including 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as Papa. Brian believed in doing a job properly, a belief he passed on to not only his family but all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. Brian also believed in giving back to his community; he was a founding and charter member of the Lucknow Kinsmen, a respected member of the Oak Shriners Club in London and the Masonic Lodge Lucknow. He was always happy to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Known for his quick wit, Brian brought a smile to all those who knew him, and all were welcome at the home on Havelock. He will be forever missed, and his memory will live on in all those who loved him. “Goodnight, sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” A come and go celebration of life will be held at the Lucknow Legion, Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 4-7 p.m., with memories shared at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wingham Hospital Foundation; arrangements entrusted to the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow; www.mackenzieandmccreath.com. |
