ANDRIES "ANDY" GROENVELD

October 18, 2023

Andries “Andy” Groenveld of Ripley died peacefully, with family by his side, at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at the age of 95. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Ann Groenveld (De Vries); and sister, Janny De Vries of Belleville. Andy will be sadly missed by his children, Art (Debbie) Groenveld of Grimsby, Gord (Grace) Groenveld of Mitchell, Andrew Groenveld of Lucknow, and Anita (Gary) Rutledge of Kincardine, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his son, Stewart Groenveld (2014). Andy immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1951. He worked on several farms and logging camps before going back to Holland in 1955 for his sweetheart, Ann. They were married Feb. 23, 1955. March 11, 1955, they departed from Rotterdam and came to Canada, arriving here with $10 and a couple of suitcases. They worked hard on various farms until they could rent and eventually buy a farm - first in Brussels and then in Kincardine. One of their biggest farming highlights was on a Sunday afternoon when one of the cows had triplets, which was very rare. After a few moves within the area, they made their home at Rosewood RVilla Retirement Living in Ripley. Andy and Ann enjoyed 17 winters in Florida with friends, including lots of euchre and shuffleboard. The funeral will be held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley, Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment, Ripley Cemetery. Donations to the Rosewood RVilla Residents Activity Fund or the charity of your choice, are greatly appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Condolences on-line at www.mackenzieandmccreath.com.
