Ted David Edwin Smith of Bowser, British Columbia, formerly of Tiverton, died peacefully, Oct. 6, 2023, at home with family, after managing a lung disease for several years. He was 79. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Anne Smith; his children, Sitka, Julie (Mike), Blayne and Scott (Tracy); and his grandchildren, Noah and Liam. Remembered by his siblings, Donna (Jerry), Marilyn (Luigi), Ken (Heather) and Laura; and numerous Smith, Hawkes, Wilson and MacLean families. Predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Edwin Smith; first wife, Bonnie Smith; parents-in-law, Bert and Muriel Hawkes and Alida MacLean. He will also be dearly missed by his friends, Bruce and Joanne Rowland; as well as other friends throughout the years, who are too numerous to name. Ted was born at his family farmhouse in Blenheim Township, and then moved with his family to Guelph. He spent the majority of his career working at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development which moved his life to Tiverton, where he started his family. He was a man of many skills and hobbies. When he was younger, he learned pistol-shooting, archery, hunting, fishing, and taxidermy. His love for reading books, cooking and scuba diving were primary interests throughout his life. In his later years, he developed skills in antiquing and restoration, understanding our family ancestry, and could always be found making or fixing something in his workshop. He learned poetry and honed his public-speaking skills by challenging himself to participate in the local Toastmasters club. In his retirement, he and Anne moved to British Columbia where they loved exploring the island and found much fun in discovering, identifying and photographing the various birds, flora and fauna. At Ted’s request, there is no visitation or memorial service. Memorial donations to your nearest food bank would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. The family wishes to send a special thank you, for their care and compassion, to his family physician, Dr. Colin Duncan; Brandon and staff at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy; Tracy at Life Support; Joan Dryden at Vital Aire; Pacific Lung Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital; Island Health staff and Oceanside Palliative Services in Parksville; Sherri, his respiratory therapist; Karen, his occupational therapist; Dr. Susan Hunter, Yates Memorial Services, and the staff at MedPro. |
