(SOUTH HURON, ON) - A Goderich man, wanted for failing to comply with his court release conditions, is back in custody after he was arrested early Thursday morning, July 9, by Huron County OPP.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. Huron County OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check at Morrison Line and Crediton Road, when they observed a GMC Sierra pick-up truck approach the checkpoint. As the vehicle got closer, it abruptly stopped and turned into a nearby laneway. This driving maneuver caught the officer’s attention and prompted him to go and check on the driver.
The investigating officer spoke with the driver and was able to identify him as a wanted person. The driver was subsequently arrested for the outstanding warrant. Further investigation revealed the wanted man was prohibited from driving due to previous driving convictions. He also held a suspended driver’s licence.
In addition, the attached licence plates were not authorized for the pick-up truck. Also, a search of the vehicle incident to arrest, revealed the driver was in possession of an open bottle of liquor.
As a result, 45-year-old Michael CHAPMAN of Goderich has been charged with 10 offences. He is facing charges of Fail to Comply with Recognizance, two counts of Driving While Disqualified, five counts of Driving While Under Suspension, Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, and Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing July 9 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
