Dancers from Ireland, Scotland compete at Kincardine Scottish Festival
About 170 dancers took part in the Highland dancing competition at the Kincardine Scottish Festival - some from as far away as Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Fourteen Scottish and nine Irish dancers joined the large number of competitors Saturday, July 4, competing in a variety of dances, including the sword dance, hornpipe, barracks, jig, and fling.
The overseas dancers were already in Canada to compete in the Canadian championships in London the following week, so they decided to compete in Kincardine as a warm-up.
The following awards were presented after the competition:
- Most Promising Beginner - Rackley Family Trophy: Ailsa Bogan, Orangeville
- Most Promising Novice - Connell Family Trophy: Ava Stutzman, Chatsworth
- Most Promising Intermediate - McKechnie Family Trophy: Ciera MacDonald, Ajax
- Special Fling - Premier 15 Years and Under - S. R. Brown Memorial Trophy: Elsie Cheyne, Cambridge
- Dancer of the Day: Samantha Melsom, Owen Sound; and Reese Wood, Toronto
