“This is a critical position for the museum operation,” said Cathy McGirr, director of museum and cultural services. “Her work as the development officer, combined with her community stakeholder engagement, has prepared her well to take on this new role.”
Canton joined the museum staff in June, 2018, as the revenue development officer. Through this role, she successfully accomplished several initiatives to further develop the revenue portfolio for the museum.
Before she came to the museum, Canton was the manager at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound for five years, and prior to that, she spent 15 years working in the newspaper business for the Owen Sound Sun Times, National Post, Calgary Herald, and in the Canadian Arctic for Northern News Services.
Canton holds a Master of Journalism and Communications degree from Carleton University, a Journalism Diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, a post-graduate Masters in Fine Arts Studies from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta.
“I have enjoyed my experience working at the museum and for Bruce County over the past two-and-a-half years,” said Canton, “and I look forward to taking on this new role with both museum staff and the communities we serve.”
Even though the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre is closed to the public under the provincial shutdown until Jan. 25, Canton may be contacted directly at 226-909-2881 and
