South Bruce OPP report drinking driver; shoplifter; and remind public of Bear Wise program

CALLER HELPS STOP DRINKING DRIVER
 

(BRANT TWP, ON) – July 11, at 2:56 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a suspicious vehicle, described as a white Ford F-150 pick-up truck, on Concession 10 in Brant Township. 

Officers located the vehicle and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. A three-day driver's licence suspension was served on the driver following a warn result at the roadside.
 

SHOPLIFTER FACING DAY IN COURT
 

(WALKERTON, ON) – July 4, at 1:23 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a theft at the Home Hardware store located along Durham Street East in Walkerton. 

Officers arrived to find that a female had taken some products from the store. The list of stolen property included a shower diverter valve and a light switch plate.
 

The investigation culminated on July 10, with an arrest. A 27-year-old Brockton woman has been charged with theft under $5,000. She is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 24, to answer to the charge.

BEAR WISE PROGRAM
 

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is reminding residents about the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR)'s Bear Wise program following reports of bear-sightings in the Huron Ridge area of Kincardine Township July 13. Following the Bear Wise program tips will help reduce your chances of encountering a bear:
 

  • Store garbage in containers with tight lids

  • Only put garbage out the day of collection

  • Clean outdoor grills after each use, including the grease trap

  • Only fill bird feeders during winter months

  • Don’t let leave pet food outside

  • Pick ripe fruit from trees and bushes


Bear-sightings should be reported to the MNR Bear Hotline at 1-866-514-2327. Anyone interested in more information on wildlife, can contact the MNR at 1-800-667-1940 or check on-line at http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca.
