South Bruce OPP report single-vehicle crash; and caution about fraud

MINOR INJURIES IN SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH

(BRANT TWP, ON) – July 18, at 6:06 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a single-vehicle crash along Bruce County Road 3 in Brant Township.

Officers arrived with the Walkerton Fire Department and Bruce County paramedics to find that a grey Toyota Corolla had been passing a northbound vehicle, when the driver moved to the shoulder to avoid a southbound vehicle and the driver lost control.

A 28-year-old Milton woman was charged with pass when roadway not clear. There were minor injuries reported at the scene.

DON’T PAY THE CON-MAN

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP is sending another reminder for residents to be mindful of fraud following a complaint received July 22 from a resident of Brockton.

An E-mail was received from the “Canada Revenue Agency (CRA),” asking for personal information to process a refund. The message was not sent by the CRA, but personal information was shared.

Modern, tech-savvy, scammers are able to create very convincing schemes designed to steal your money or your personal information. They will often pretend to represent a legitimate company, bank or even a government agency like the CRA. Your best defence is to verify an unsolicited contact before you consider responding to it. Unsolicited means that you didn’t ask for it.

Fraud is a multi-million-dollar enterprise that will only end when the scammers stop making money. Anyone interested in more information on fraud can call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or check on-line at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca/.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
