Sundown Theatre, the company that created "The Selkie of Kincardine" and "The Ghost Ship," returns this summer with an incredible new production, staged in a rustic barn in downtown Kincardine.
The troupe will present the internationally-renowned play, "Tuesdays and Sundays," by Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn, Aug. 12-23, in the Town Centre Market barn, 312 Durham Market Square South (just behind the storefront buildings), a location that's "off the beaten path" and is sure to inspire audiences to see their surroundings with new eyes.
The company is well-known for its location-based outdoor productions, with previous shows staged along the boardwalk and beach in Kincardine's Dunsmoor Park.
Sundown Theatre continues to attract high-calibre talent from across the country, including rising star Clare Preuss as the show's director, and award-winning lighting designer Michelle Ramsay. The piece will also feature local actor Mariel Marshall who also leads the company as artistic director.
"Tuesdays and Sundays" is a poetic and breathtaking play described by the New York Sun as: "An insightful, moving and rather marvellous tale."
Enjoy an unforgettable night of theatre as you follow the lives of William and Mary through their first meeting, the initial giddy courtship and the overwhelming passions of first love.
The play begins as you meet the spirits of William and Mary, a young couple, who awaken into a void. As they question where they are, they begin to relive their first meeting at a New Year's Eve social, their courtship and first love, the pangs of a six-month absence from each other, and the guilt and shame of a young man living in a rural community in which respectability is of utmost importance.
Although they try to nourish their love amidst the confusing emotions and events of their lives, misunderstanding and fear create challenging consequences. "Tuesdays and Sundays" was inspired by a true love story that took place in 1887 in the farming community of Margate on Prince Edward Island.
The play features Mariel Marshall as Mary, and Matthew Power as William, with pre-show performances by The Young Company.
