Reader says Kincardine council's land acknowledgement should be specific
To the Editor:
RE: "Kincardine council to discuss diversity, mediation; appoints staff"
I am very pleased that Kincardine council has joined the thousands of other organizations in Canada, and indeed in other countries, by opening events and meetings by acknowledging the care that the First Nations have taken of the land.
The wording is adequate but would be much improved by specifying the names of the people to whom we are indebted. I'm sure the Saugeen First Nation can provide guidance in this area, along with assistance in the proper pronunciation.
Once again, my thanks to the council for taking this important step forward.
