Hanover woman leading Chantry derby with 13.75-pound salmon
Linna Lennox of Hanover is leading the 2015 Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby, with a 13.75-pound Chinook salmon, caught Sunday afternoon.

In second place, is Andy Stephens of Stokes Bay with a 13.26-pound Chinook, followed by Bruce McDonald of Southampton with a 12.26-pound Coho salmon, Mike Weber of Waterloo with a 12.1-pound Chinook, and Darren Robins of Miller Lake with an 11.28-pound Chinook.

Paul Bester of Kincardine has the largest trout, so far, with a 16.5-pound lake trout he caught Sunday night.

In second place, is Karen Passmore of Kincardine with a 15.11-pound lake trout, followed by Travis Breton of Ripley with a 12.81-pound lake trout, R. Chalifoux of Cambridge with an 11.92-pound rainbow trout, and Ernie Ackert of Kincardine with an 11.69-pound lake trout.

The derby opened at 12:01 a.m. Saturday. The lake was calm for the most part, until about 11 a.m. when the wind picked up and the water turned choppy. Sunday was a nicer day with plenty of sun and hot temperatures.

The top prize for the largest salmon is $15,000, with $4,000 for second, and $2,000 for third. The prize for the largest trout is $6,000, with $1,500 for second, and $750 for third. The derby offers more than $60,000 in cash and product prizes.

There are four weigh stations: Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Pike Bay and Wiarton.

Ladies' Day was Sunday, July 26, and again Sunday, Aug. 2, while Seniors' Days (age 60-plus) are Wednesday, July 29, and Wednesday, Aug. 5. Kids' Day (age 17 and under) is Saturday, Aug. 1, from 1-3 p.m. at each weigh station and at Sauble River Marina and Lodge Resort.

The All-you-can-eat Fish Fry is slated for Saturday, Aug. 8, from 4-8 p.m., at Kincardine Harbour. Cost is $17 for adults, and $8 for children under age 12.

The derby runs until Sunday, Aug. 9, at noon, with closing ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre in Tiverton.
