Two candidates running for Ward 1 councillor in Kincardine
Two candidates have put their names forward to become Ward 1 councillor in Kincardine.

The position was declared vacant April 26, after Gerry Glover was appointed to the mayor’s seat.

Jeremy Albisser of Inverhuron and Andrea Clarke of Kincardine are running for the job. Both also ran for the Ward 3 councillor position in January.

During the presentations in January, Albisser said he had accelerated a long-dreamed plan to move back to Bruce County. He was on the front lines during SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and was in a pandemic response leadership position during the H1N1 outbreak. He provided decision support and consulting services at various Ontario hospitals, community mental health and addiction agencies, and provincial ministries. He then started a successful company that brings technology and innovation to the process of waste collection. He said his combination of skills would be a good addition to council, particularly as the municipality adapts to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Clarke moved here with her family in 2018 and has a law practice in downtown Kincardine. She studied in the United Kingdom, and served on a municipal council there. She said she has the ability to listen, to understand a distinct and different perspective, and to effectively convey that information to a broader audience.

The candidates will speak at the special council appointment meeting, June 16. The vacancy must be filled by June 25.
