Fatal collision west of Wingham

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – The Huron County OPP and members from the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2.
 

Shortly before 2 p.m., officers from the Huron County OPP detachment, along with personnel from the North Huron Fire Department and the Huron County EMS, responded to a two-vehicle collision on Amberley Rd (Huron County Road 86), between Gibbons Line and Beecroft Line, west of Wingham.
 

Investigation revealed that an eastbound Toyota Corolla was passing an eastbound tractor trailer on Amberley Rd., when it collided with a westbound Harley Davidson motorcycle, carrying a rider and a passenger. The impact resulted in both the motorcycle rider and passenger to be thrown from the machine. 
 

The 61-year-old female passenger of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. She has been identified as Maria VANDEKOLK. The 59-year-old male operator of the motorcycle was transported by air ambulance to a London hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Gerardus VANDEKOLK. Both deceased parties were Howick Township residents.
 

The 67-year-old female driver of the car, Katherine EEDY of Mississauga, was extricated from her vehicle by North Huron Fire Department personnel. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
 

OPP West Region TTCI members and the Huron County OPP are continuing their investigation into this crash.
