London artist brings love of vibrant colour to Victoria Park Gallery

Susan Bush Donati loves vibrant colour and enjoys sharing that love through her beautiful artwork on display in the guest gallery at the Victoria Park Gallery in downtown Kincardine, through the month of August.

The London artist was born and educated in Montreal, Quebec, where her family consisted of a number of talented artists. She has painted and sculpted since the age of four, experimenting with all media, but always returning to the "ooze of oil."

She paints a wide variety of subject matter from portraits to landscapes and cityscapes. Her travels and life experiences have produced a love for the coloured lights of people and places, and her style lends itself well to expressing her 'sight' of them as she fuses realism and symbolism.

"I feel so fortunate to have a career I love," says Donati. "Pretty much everything inspires me and I have, consequently, painted many different topics. My heart belongs to country scenes and particularly, the woods which have birthed the myths of culture and lakes, both which represent to me the cycle of life - decay, regeneration and growth."

Donati has been a guest artist at the Victoria Park Gallery for a number of years, but missed the past couple as there was a line-up of artists who wanted to exhibit there.

"That was no surprise to me," she says. "I love the gallery. It is everything a gallery should be - a showcase of local artists and artisans in a heritage building."

Her family owns a cottage in Kincardine on Sandpiper Lane and spends the summers there. While she has done a radio interview and a demonstration at a restaurant in town a couple of years, her real connection is emotional - the people, the Saturday night parade, the car show, the shops, the lighthouse, the beach, the park market and, of course, the gallery.

Also at the Victoria Park Gallery, check out the Open Book Auction, featuring gallery artists' work available for bid.

The auction runs until Aug. 21 when it will be taken to the Marine Heritage Festival and the winning bidders announced.

The gallery is located in the Kincardine Arts Centre in downtown Kincardine, Its summer hours are Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Noon to 3 p.m. For more information, check the website at www.vpgallerykincardine.com
