Sundown Theatre production of Tuesdays and Sundays set to open Aug. 12
The stage is set and the actors are ready for the Sundown Theatre production of "Tuesdays and Sundays" which opens Aug. 12 in the Town Centre Market barn, located behind the businesses on Durham Market South, Kincardine.

During a preview, July 30, actor Mariel Marshall who also leads the company as artistic director, said the play lends itself to an intimate setting. That's why she chose this location which is "off the beaten path" and is sure to inspire audiences to see their surroundings with new eyes.

She emphasized the great support that Sundown Theatre has received in getting this stage ready for the show. It required the removal of bricks, an old car, wood, garbage, fences, tires and leaves, which was done over two days, and then levelling the gravelly-sandy ground.

In its two previous productions, the theatre troupe performed at Dunsmoor Park, with much of the action taking place on the boardwalk and at the beach.

This time, it will be "theatre-in-the-round," with the audience placed in a circle around the action. Director is rising star Clare Preuss, with award-winning lighting designer Michelle Ramsay, and costume design and construction by Lindsay Wood.

Marshall plays the part of Mary, opposite Matthew Power as William in this poetic and breathtaking show described by the New York Sun as: "An insightful, moving and rather marvellous tale."

The play begins as you meet the spirits of William and Mary, a young couple, who awaken into a void. As they question where they are, they begin to relive their first meeting at a New Year's Eve social, their courtship and first love, the pangs of a six-month absence from each other, and the guilt and shame of a young man living in a rural community in which respectability is of utmost importance.

Although they try to nourish their love amidst the confusing emotions and events of their lives, misunderstanding and fear create challenging consequences. "Tuesdays and Sundays" was inspired by a true love story that took place in 1887 in the farming community of Margate on Prince Edward Island.

Pre-show performances will be by the Young Company, along with local musicians, Thales, 11, and Sappho Hunter, 7.

"Tuesdays and Sundays," written by Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn, runs Aug. 12-23. Tickets are $22 each for adults, and $18 each for youth under age 18; available through the website: www.sundowntheatre.ca

Enbridge is the presenting sponsor for this show.
