The house beside the Kincardine Airport will get a second lease on life as it is set to be relocated rather than demolished.
Back in February, Kincardine council approved the demolition of the house at a cost of about $20,000 for work associated with removing the structure.
However, chief administrative officer Murray Clarke says that once Ken Jackson secured the contract to demolish the house, he found an opportunity to move it to another location, which was council's original hope for the structure.
The house has been lifted off its foundation and is ready to be moved, Monday, to Concession 5, and then on to its end location in Inverhuron.
"It’s actually a good arrangement for us," says Clarke, "since the municipality had agreed to waive tipping fees for the demolition material, estimated to be in the range of $9,000, plus we would have had to manage all of the waste at the landfill site."
Originally, the house was used by the airport manager. But in the past few years, it has been rented out with varying success. The last tenants moved out in the spring of 2012, and left the house in a mess which the municipality was required to clean up. Considered a liability, the house was set for demolition June 30.
