From the past – a recipe for soap
To the Editor:
I am enjoying your letters about recent history.
I have a recipe book published by the Kintail Women's institute in 1954. My mother and grandmother were members of that group.
One of the interesting things about this book, is that none of the contributors had first names. They were Mrs. Dan, Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Bill, etc.
Often in the ingredients, one finds the term "a pinch of---, a peck of---, a dipper of---", and you are often told to bake in a "warm oven".
I came across the recipe for soap which reads as follows:
If we are concerned about the ingredients in things we use today, just imagine what we were raised with!
