The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation is "Bringing it Home" by hosting its own Radiothon this Friday, Sept. 18, at Trillium Court Seniors' Community in Kincardine.

The event is a fund-raiser to purchase capital equipment for the Kincardine hospital. For the past 10 years, Kincardine has participated in the Health Care Heroes Radiothon in Wingham, but many Kincardine residents told the foundation that they didn't consider it a "community event" because it wasn't in their community.

"Therefore, we are excited to bring the Radiothon home to Kincardine, with the full support of myFM Radio to help make it happen," said foundation co-ordinator Diane Baldwin. Also sponsoring the event, are Trillium Court and Bruce Telecom.

Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Trillium Court’s main entrance will be set up with a full radio studio broadcast centre. complete with the news media, food, computers, phone lines, activities, auction and a cheque presentation corner for walk-in donations and the foundation's wonderful supporters!

People are urged to call 519-396-1222 and make their pledge to the Radiothon project. The goal is $75,000 to purchase 21 IV pumps which are urgently needed at the hospital. The current IV pumps are far beyond their rated useful life and the hospital has been experiencing issues and breakdowns. The new devices are "smart pumps" which are programmable, reducing the potential for errors and improving patient outcomes. Total cost is $90,500.

"This is going to be an exciting day for the Kincardine community and we hope that everyone will come out and join us," said Baldwin. "Even to come in and just say hi to our dedicated volunteers and see what we are doing!"

Also out in the community are containers that say "Quarters for Care" which were decorated by Lindy Graham's Grade 5 class at Huron Heights Public School, back in June. All of those donations will go toward the Radiothon as well.

"We would love you to be a part of our community Radiothon," said Baldwin. "We all benefit from having a hospital that has up-to-date medical equipment. Our vision is to focus on our long-term goal of keeping our local hospital current and vibrant in order to best serve the medical needs of our community.  And with your help, we can accomplish this vision together."
