CARE AND CONTROL OVER-80 CHARGE LAID
(GODERICH, ON) – A 56-year-old Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh man will be making a trip to court next month following his arrest this past week.
Friday, Sept. 18, around 10:30 a.m., Huron County OPP officers were notified by a citizen of a suspected impaired driver who had just left a business located in Goderich. Officers immediately started patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a brown Chevrolet Venture van.
Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle parked at a mini-mall plaza on Victoria Street North. Officers located the male driver seated in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition. Police spoke with the man d upon speaking with him, they noted he had been drinking alcohol.
A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 56-year-old Dean KOLPIN of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Oct. 19. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
RACING AND POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA CHARGES LAID
(GODERICH, ON) – Police have charged a 19-year-old novice driver with Street Racing after he was spotted racing along Suncoast Drive in the Town of Goderich.
Sept. 17, at approximately 9:22 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Chrysler Neon travelling westbound on Suncoast Drive East in an apparent race with the driver of a Lexus sedan. The officer watched as both vehicles raced side-by-side at an estimated speed of 100 km/h. The officer followed both vehicles on Suncoast Drive to the intersection of Suncoast Drive and Bayfield Road. Once they got to the intersection, the vehicles split up. The officer managed to stop the driver of the Chrysler Neon on Bayfield Road.
The young male driver was arrested for the offence of Racing and was searched upon arrest. Upon searching the male, a small quantity of marijuana was found in his possession. As a result, 19-year-old William CURRAN has been charged with Racing and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis Marijuana). He has a court date scheduled for Oct. 19, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic seven-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
