Purple Grove news

Ian Elliott of Barrie enjoyed a good visit with John and Joyce Farrell on Sunday.

Happy Birthday to Dorothy Needham, Diane McCulloch and Kathy Rear.

We pray that all the folks who are in the hospital recover quickly and are able to return home soon.

Great to see the fences going up for the fair and seeing the trailers moving in for Carter Shows Limited.

Sympathy to family of Mary McIntosh and to the family of Emily MacGregor and all the other families that are grieving.

Congratulations to Martha and Fred at the RVilla condos at the north end of Ripley. Their offspring, Charlie, is looking very good in the Fall Fair Display. Also, thanks to everyone who has set up bale displays. Great job, folks! If you have a chance, it is worthwhile to check them out and see how many talented and imaginative ideas went into putting these displays together.

Thanks to the ladies of the Ripley Legion for hosting the Alzheimer Coffee Break on Thursday morning. It was very well attended and much appreciated by the folks in the village and surrounding area.

Our sympathy goes out to Irma (Foster) Henderson and family on the death of her husband, Ross. Many of us remember attending dances when he played with our Don Robertson and company.

Don and Marilyn Reid visited and had supper with Bob and Joyce Courtney of Point Clark area Sunday evening.

Ladies, remember to have your wonderful pies ready to take to the fair for Saturday! As always, we know everyone looks forward to them and there never seem to be enough to go around. It looks good for the fair day and this year, there are many interesting attractions to be had for young and old, alike, so plan on attending. See you there and remember to take your camera along for those precious moments we seem to experience when we are there.

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The September meeting of the Purple Grove Women’s Institute was held at the Community Centre. Hostess Deanna Scott had the centre looking so nice. Our president, Janet Rhody, opened the meeting. The roll call about Alzheimer Disease was answered by the ladies present, but not by the one-year-old (she provided the chuckles). Donna Swan read the Scripture.

Under new business, we discussed the Fall Fair Display which is being chaired by Wilma Sutton and Diane Clifford. We were asked to supply pies for the booth in the Arena. Also discussed, was the working schedule in manning the booth Saturday morning. The ladies who served at the Bruce County Museum in August reported having a great time greeting visitors to the Log House and Old School House.

Our convener, Christine Roberts, had a brain teaser contest that had us put on our thinking caps. Christine was pleased to introduce our guest speaker, Sandra Hong, public education co-ordinator for the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce.

Sandra was helpful in educating all present on Alzheimer's/Dementia. She also encouraged us in what we can do to help prevent Alzheimer's. Of great interest to everyone present was the concept of the fidget apron, placemats, and lap quilts. Our guests from the Quilters’ Guild shared their experiences with making these items. Sandra was open to accept questions from the folks present and capably answered everyone. Christine thanked Sandra for all the information and her expertise and time.

Lunch was provided by Fran Farrell, Joyce Farrell and Mary Anne Kukoly.  See you at the next meeting, the afternoon of Oct. 7, at the Community Centre.
