Winter storm persists in the Kincardine area
In what seems like deja vu from January, 2014, a winter storm has shut down the Kincardine area, closing roads and schools and causing major havoc for motorists.
The first real blast of winter hit Saturday (Jan. 3) and again Monday (Jan. 5). Then, there was a brief reprieve yesterday before another storm descended last night, closing Highway 21 from Port Elgin to Amberley, and the B-line (Bruce County Road 23) from Lorne Beach to Bruce County Road 15.
This morning, residents awoke to a blizzard as blowing and drifting snow brought the area to a stand-still. All the schools in Kincardine are closed. The Kincardine municipal office is closed. And many events and activities have been cancelled.
The OPP reports that as of 9 a.m., Highway 21 is closed from Grand Bend to Port Elgin; Highway 9 is closed from Kincardine to Walkerton; and the B-line is closed from Lorne Beach to Bruce Road 15. Road crews are working to open the roads, but their efforts are hampered by abandoned vehicles which cause the roads to be closed longer.
