Tuesday, Sept. 29, Grades 4-8 students at St. Anthony's School, Kincardine, participated in the "Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up."
Classes were divided into groups to clean up litter along the Penetangore River. Students used the Kincardine trail network in order to gain access to the river banks and, subsequently, cleaned many areas of the trail network as well.
The main goal behind the clean-up is to keep harmful waste out of our waterways (any litter on the trails will eventually make its way into the river and, ultimately, into the lake), hence the reason it is important to keep the trails clean, as well as the river.
The students collected approximately two full bags of recycling and five full bags of garbage, as well as some larger items such as a pool liner, bike frame, scrap metal and plastic fencing.
