(MUNICIPALITY OF BROCKTON, ON) – A 20-year-old Walkerton man is dead following a single-vehicle accident in Walkerton, early Saturday morning, Oct. 24.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., the South Bruce OPP, the Walkerton Fire Department, and Emergency Services from Bruce and Grey Counties responded to the accident on Durham Street East in Walkerton.
Preliminary investigation has determined that the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was travelling westbound on Durham Street East. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with a light standard on the north side of the road then continued down a steep embankment before coming to rest on its side in the Saugeen River.
A passenger inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by the attending coroner. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Bradley STRADER, of Walkerton.
The driver and five other passengers - four men and a woman in their 20s - were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Durham Street East, between Ontario and McNab Streets, was closed for several hours for the safety of emergency responders. It was reopened around 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is in its early stages.
