Bluewater education director releases his first annual report
Steve Blake, education director with the Bluewater District School Board, released his first annual report in mid-December, outlining highlights of 2014 in terms of goals, achievements and next steps related to the board's multi-year strategic plan and each of its four strategic priorities.
New this year, is the addition of the fourth strategic priority: "Be accountable for the responsible stewardship of resources."
Blake said the recent addition of this fourth pillar is very timely as the board strives for better alignment of its resources to its priorities.
"It should come as no surprise that some of the difficulties that our board grappled with over the past year will continue to face us as we move forward," he said, in his report. "The ongoing trend of declining enrollment means that our board's escalating accommodation issues and financial pressures must be addressed."
The annual report also features some of the many significant board accomplishments and success stories of 2014, including improvements in standardized test scores especially in Grade 9 applied math, the many gains being made to support student and staff mental health, and recent board and school initiatives to encourage parent engagement.
“It is a pleasure to share my report and a sampling of the countless successes of the past year with our trustees, staff, students, parents, partners and communities,” said Blake. “As we reflect on our recent work, we also look ahead to 2015 and how we will continue to align our resources to our priorities so that we can foster and maintain the best programming options for all of our students.”
