SVCA invites public to information session on floodplain mapping study

November 16, 2023

Aiming to strengthen community resilience and safety, the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA), in collaboration with the Township of Huron-Kinloss and Water’s Edge Environmental Solutions, has initiated a vital study focused on updating the floodplain mapping within the township.

This initiative primarily seeks to enhance the understanding of flood risks and explore potential mitigation strategies. Floodplain mapping plays a crucial role in guiding decisions related to safeguarding people and properties from natural hazards.

Residents of Huron-Kinloss and other interested community members are invited to a public information session, Nov. 27, from 5-8 p.m., at the Point Clark Community Centre, 344 Lake Range Drive, Point Clark, Ontario.

Attendees will have the opportunity to examine the study area, learn about the intricacies of floodplain mapping, and engage in discussions. The community’s invaluable feedback through anecdotes, written submissions, photographs, and more, particularly regarding any past flooding experiences in this area, is highly encouraged.

Draft results of the study are anticipated to be available this winter.
