Kincardine Pride raising Transgender flag Nov. 20

Members of Kincardine Pride are raising the Transgender flag for the Transgender Day of Remembrance, Nov. 20, at the Kincardine community flagpole, located at the Kincardine Library.
This annual celebration commemorates the trans, two-spirit, and non-binary people who have lost their lives to transphobic violence. It also honours those who continue to face violence and discrimination as they work for more just and inclusive communities.
The term transgender describes people whose gender identity differs from the sex assigned at their birth. Gender identity is a person's internal, personal sense of being male or female. Gender identity does not fit neatly into those two choices for all individuals.
For transgender people, the sex assigned to them at birth and their own internal gender identity do not match (source: www.glaad.org/tdor).
“Developing an understanding of the diversity in our community helps us become aware, rethink our assumptions, creates allyship, and fosters a sense of connection with each other,” says Sandy Blackwood of Kincardine Pride.
