Kincardine approves $1.7-million contract for Kincardine Avenue servicing extension
Kincardine council has approved a $1.7-million contract for the extension of water and sewer services from Kincardine Avenue eastward, across Highway 21, to the Southline.
At the meeting Wednesday night (May 8), council moved into closed session to discuss advice that was subject to solicitor-client privilege, including communications necessary for that purpose.
Following the closed session, mayor Kenneth Craig announced that the closed meeting was held to discuss the Kincardine Avenue servicing contract, and matters dealing with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) Russell Street agreements.
He then called for a vote on the motion to direct staff to proceed with the signing of the contract for the Kincardine Avenue servicing extension, with Omega Contractors Inc. for the tendered amount of $1,723,500.72.
In his report to council, Adam Weishar, director of infrastructure and economic development, stated that the tender results were presented to council in December, 2023. Council then directed staff to work on a funding agreement with benefitting landowners, with an update to be shared with council in closed session.
Based on that status, staff requested council direction to proceed with ratification of the construction contract which would enable Omega to proceed with the work.
The project is anticipated to start mid-to-late June and be completed by approximately late summer, stated Weishar. It is required to support development and growth east of Highway 21, including the new hotel. Without servicing, those projects would be impacted along with any future projects being considered.
Construction has begun on the Staybridge Suites Hotel, located on the north corner of Highway 21 and the Southline. Just east of that development, is Bruce County Storage which is set to open soon.
