Erva Verheye of Kincardine remembered for living life to the fullest and always game for an adventure
Margaret “Erva” (née Hutton) Verheye died peacefully, at Victoria Hospital, London, aware that she was surrounded by loved ones, Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024. She as 87.

The ONLY child, has gone to Heaven to join her much-loved Dad and Mom, Benson and Nellie (née Hunter) Hutton.

Erva will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by her Goddaughter, Paula, and Joel Medina and their family; as well as her “chosen daughter,” Adele Mitchinson. Opal, the last in her line of furry children, was her constant and faithful companion.

Also remembered by many cousins, particularly June and Anthony Okafor and family, and Marg McKinnon; neighbours, friends and stand-in supporters, Heather and Sam Finnie.

Erva was born on the 9th Concession of Kincardine Township and grew up a hard-working farm girl. She told many stories, with some of her favourites being her days working at the Circle Bar Knitting factory, Andrew Malcolm Furniture Factory, and the Crust and Crumb, and her days of darts, cards and camaraderie at the Kincardine Legion, Pipe Band Parades, Scrabble-playing. Her claim to fame was that she babysat our current mayor, Kenneth Craig!

Her zeal for life was an inspiration to those who loved her, and she lived her life to the fullest, always game for an adventure.

Thank you to all the community people, Dr. Daniel Soong & Dr. Owen Montpellier, the paramedic team, Gordon Pharmasave, Meals on Wheels, Closing the Gap physio, her handyman, Wayne Hartwick, and neighbours who made it possible for Erva to remain in her home, exactly where she wanted to be.

Interment will be in the spring, in Kincardine Cemetery, alongside her parents.

Anyone who would like to make a donation in memory of Erva, can do so to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation – Erva received exceptional care at the Kincardine Hospital over the past few years; or to Allies for Alley Catz.

We found this poem to share:

ODE TO ERVA

Erva, you are the one
That seems to have a lot of fun
You play darts on Monday nite
With a bullseye in your site
Scrabble is a game you play
Don’t care what some people say
What word do you make with Q
When darn it, you don’t get a U?
Candies’ Erva’s little cat
It thinks Erva’s where its at
It is pampered, spoiled I bet
It’s real good to be Erva’s pet
Erva is a Fan of Elvis
Who really liked to shake his pelvis
He had Erva “all shook up”
Especially when he was a younger pup
Erva is sweet, and kind and nice
But she really has just one vice
She really threw us a curva
Cause no darn word really rhymes with Erva!
