Concept for Victoria Park, Kincardine, to be unveiled at open house, Oct. 1
The Municipality of Kincardine is holding a come-and-go open house, Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., in the Miller Insurance Room at the Davidson Centre, to unveil plans for Victoria Park in downtown Kincardine.

In June, the municipality held an open house for the public to consider and discuss the revitalization of the park. The Oct. 1 event will highlight the development of the new concept through the public engagement process.

Everyone is welcome to drop in to see the proposal for Victoria Park and to chat with Pl.ural Inc., the consultant assisting with ensuring that improvements help to make the park a space that’s welcoming and functional for everyone.

“Victoria Park is a space that is well used and loved in our community,” said community services director Jayne Jagelewski. “This project is about making the space even more welcoming and to improve the usability of the area by all members of the community.”

The initial concepts, presented at the beginning of summer, were guided by five principles:

  • Maximizing safety – addressing aging infrastructure, improving access, and enhancing site barriers.
  • Creating spaces for everyone – improving accessibility, providing amenity, and mitigating barriers.
  • Affording performances – establishing space for performances, special events, and community gatherings.
  • Celebrating legacy – acknowledging, respecting, and celebrating park history, with special consideration to noteworthy spaces, trees, artifacts, and water.
  • Enhancing canopy cover – maintaining mature trees, and supplementing with new planting to ensure canopy longevity.

The new concept incorporates these principles along with the feedback gained through the previous open house and on-line surveying.

“We heard so many great thoughts and opinions about Victoria Park,” said Jagelewski. “We appreciate the enthusiasm and time taken by everyone. We cannot accommodate every request we heard, but this design represents as many of them as possible in a harmonious way, while respecting the heritage aspects of the park.”
