Well done, Ripley Agricultural Society, on another amazing fair! Lots of people were home and visiting with family and friends over the weekend and there were lots of events and great music for everyone to enjoy! Thank you, especially, to the executive and directors, the many volunteers, and sponsors of entertainment and events and to all those exhibitors who help fill up the arena and show ring with beautiful displays, exhibits and animals!
Congratulations to our new Ripley-Huron Fall Fair ambassador Brianna Pointon-Yungblut and junior ambassador Maria Morais! Congratulations to Evany Neitzel and Audrey Kernighan for participating in the competition, and to our little Prince Brayden VanDyke and Princess Darby Collins, also adding to the royalty of our fair!
It was a busy Friday night with the OAAS Award of Merit presented to Shirley Galloway and the Pine River Watershed Initiative Network awards to Melody Smillie, Jessica Adams and Troy Middelkamp and family, for their work in promoting and encouraging youth in our community and school to always protect our environment and watershed.
Of course, the weather was perfect over the weekend too, and congratulations to our towns and villages that have their street planters so well-decorated with colourful displays and new plants! Thanks to the township crews and staff for keeping them so well-watered too!
Remember, there are combines and trucks on the road working at the soybean harvest, so please be careful out there and slow down.
Visiting over the weekend were Bruce and Deb Aitken of Burke's Falls and Sheena Houghton of Michigan, and welcome to little Grace Marilyn MacDonald, daughter of Dakota Scammell and Alex MacDonald, who was born Sept. 22 - another fair baby!
Apparently, there are just a few birthdays to celebrate around the fair weekend! Happy Birthday to Nathan Beer, Fred de Boer, Callie Griffin, Glen Farrell, Tyson Towns, Jamie Farrell and Elizabeth Cubberley!
Our thoughts and prayers are with those in hospital and recovering from surgery, and our condolences go out to the families of Connie Bushell, Joe Klunder (formerly of Kincardine) and Bob Farrish of Kintail. Memories of these special people and their influence on our lives, will be treasured and shared.
Thank you from the Purple Grove Women’s Institute for your support of our muffin, cookie and coffee/tea in the social room Saturday during the fair! Our next meeting is Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Purple Grove Community Centre where we will be "Learning from the Birds." James Turland of the Huron Fringe Field Naturalists will be our speaker. Everyone is welcome!
Looking forward to the Tiverton Fall Fair next weekend - the theme is “Pumpkin Kisses and Autumn Wishes!”
Thoughts for the week: Success is not measured by what you achieve, but by the obstacles you have overcome. Positive attitudes see opportunities, negative ones see obstacles!
Have a great week, everyone!
