Grade 4 student at Huron Heights wins Bruce Power Christmas card artwork contest
Duncan Hawthorne, president and chief executive officer of Bruce Power, was at Huron Heights Public School, Kincardine, Monday morning, to not only deliver pizza to the Grade 4 class, but to make a presentation to a Grade 4 student who won the company's Christmas card artwork contest.
Selena Brown's colourful picture was chosen to grace the front of the Bruce Power Christmas cards this year.
It took her only two days to create the winning submission which reflects the important role that her family and pets play in her life. She is a natural artist who likes to draw for fun.
Selena received an art kit, $500 toward art supplies for her class, a framed copy of her original artwork and finished card, and a class pizza party.
Also, in Grade 4 at Huron Heights, was the third runner-up, Aurelie Bronkhorst, who won an art kit and $150 in art supplies for the class. The first runner-up was from Osprey Central, while the second runner-up was from Holland-Chatsworth.
This year's Bruce Power Christmas card artwork competition was open to Grades 3 and 4 students from the Bluewater District School Board and the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board.
"Thank you all for participating," said Hawthorne. "Jill (Hunter) and I always have a difficult time selecting a winner from all the great submissions.
"We send out 800 Bruce Power Christmas cards, all over the world - to India, China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates. We'll even send one to the prime minister of Canada - so, your artwork will be sitting there on his desk."
