Report of suspicious person prompts lock-down at Chesley high school

(CHESLEY, ON) – Dec. 16, at 11:43 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a suspicious man who was spotted near the Chesley District Community School along 4th Avenue in Chesley. A lockdown was initiated to prevent unauthorized access to the school.
 

Members of the Grey County OPP assisted the South Bruce OPP in a search of the area, but no suspicious man was located.
 

Police say this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to public safety.

In a press release, the Bluewater District School Board stated that the lockdown and subsequent ‘hold and secure’ were lifted by the afternoon. Staff continued to work proactively with emergency personnel in accordance with the board's lockdown procedure and assured parents that all students and staff remained safe.

The incident did not occur in the school but that the necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of all. Ongoing communication with parents of students at the school continued through the day.
