Kincardine area residents to receive Huron-Bruce MPP's outstanding citizen award

Friday, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson announced the list of recipients for the 2015 Huron-Bruce outstanding citizen award. This year, 13 people from across Huron-Bruce will receive the recognition, which celebrates the contributions of local citizens to their communities.

 

Among those recipients are Kincardine area residents James Rice, Cathy Pennington, Dr. Chandra Tripathi and Donald Farrell. 

 

Rice is passionate about children's welfare and is an active board member of the Bruce Grey Child and Family Service.

 

Pennington is community support supervisor at Community Living of Kincardine and District, and is known for going above and beyond at work and in the community. In fact, she played a pivotal role in bringing the first Kidney Walk to Grey-Bruce.

 

Tripathi organizes spiritual and cultural events, and plays a key role in the Kincardine Multicultural Celebration.

 

Farrell and his wife, Cathy, have volunteered for more than 20 years with the Pine River Watershed Initiative Network (PRWIN).

 

"Hearing about the acts of kindness performed by these citizens and their fellow nominees has been heart-warming," says Thompson. "So many people from across the riding reached out during the nomination process with nothing but praise for these remarkable men and women. I look forward to celebrating with them and their friends and family in January."

 

Thompson's New Year's Levee will take place Jan. 6, 2016, at 7 p.m. at the Teeswater Town Hall (3 Clinton St. South), and will also recognize the accomplishments of Bob Kellington of Brussels, Clarence Kieffer Jr. of Walkerton, Diane Lieber of Goderich formerly of Teeswater, Jennie Rowe of Exeter, Heather Frook of Brockton, Jean Culliton of Teeswater, Jeff Roberts of Walkerton, Roger Lewington of Bayfield, and Vicky Culbert of Goderich. The event is free and open to the public, with a Jan. 13, 2016, snow date.
