Kincardine Bulldogs start new year with four wins, three losses
The Kincardine Bulldogs of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) have chalked up four wins and three losses at the start of the new year.
On the road for the first two weeks of January, they downed Walkerton, 8-2; lost to Mount Forest, 2-1; lost to Mitchell, 7-3; lost to Hanover, 8-4; and trounced Goderich, 6-1. This past week, they notched two wins against Fergus and Mount Forest.
The ‘Dogs took on the Whalers in Fergus, Wednesday night, playing to a 4-1 win.
Scoring for Kincardine, with two goals apiece, were Carter Servais and Trent Houghton.
Assists went to Bryce Martin, Jordan Moulton, Aiden Yarde (2), Caeleb Bowler, and Chad Lawrence.
Kincardine goalie Rowen Cherrett made 33 saves on 34 shots.
Back at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, Friday night, the Bulldogs edged the Mount Forest Patriots, 4-3 in overtime.
Jordan Beisel opened the scoring for the ‘Dogs late in the first period, from Wilson Shipp and Dustin Heipel.
Mount Forest tied it up early in the second, and then took a 2-1 lead, before Bowler tied it up midway in the frame, scoring from Cooper Schneider and Kyle Dolmage.
The Patriots scored late in the period to regain a one-goal lead, heading into the third.
Late in the final frame, Martin scored the tying goal, from Servais and Moulton, to force the game into overtime.
And Bowler wasted no time, firing in the game-winning goal, from Servais, to give the Bulldogs the 4-3 win.
Kincardine goalie Cherrett made 39 saves on 42 shots.
The Bulldogs travel to Fergus, Sunday, Jan. 26, for a 3 p.m. game; and return to the Davidson Centre, Friday, Jan. 31, facing Mitchell, at 8:30 p.m.
The ‘Dogs are currently in fourth place, with 38 points, in the North Pollock Division, behind Mount Forest, Hanover and Fergus.
