Ripley Wolves fall twice in overtime as regular season ends
A perfect Ripley Wolves regular season was not to be, as they fell twice in overtime on the weekend.
Friday night in Palmerston, Cody Britton scored his second of the night with just nine seconds left in the third period, to force overtime, but the Wolves couldn't find one more goal and lost, 7-6.
Other goals were scored by Garrett Meurs (2), Kaden Hoggarth and Dawson Fahrer. Assists went to Ethan Skinner (2), Tyler McCarthy (2), Meurs (2), Todd Hellyer (2), Evan Visser and Mike Howes.
Goalie Jason Hamilton took the overtime loss in the Wolves net.
The Wolves wrapped up their regular season at home, Saturday night, against the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, and suffered another overtime loss, this time by a 5-4 score.
The ‘Hawks led, 4-1, after one period but the Wolves clawed their way back to force overtime on goals by Taylor Woolcott, Drew Davidson, Meurs and Visser. Assists went to Rob White, Gerrit Satosek, Howes, Davidson, Britton, Fahrer, Hellyer and Skinner.
Goalies Garrett Golley and Jason Hamilton split the duties in the Ripley net.
The Wolves finish the regular season with an 18-0-2 record and had previously clinched first overall in the standings. They'll have this weekend off while the regular season wraps up and will start their first-round playoff series on the weekend of Feb. 7, with their opponent still to be determined.
