Purple Grove news

To our faithful readers and to everyone, we wish you a very blessed Christmas and holiday season, celebrating the birth of our Saviour.

Thank you everyone for the great Christmas lights and displays in Purple Grove, Ripley, Lucknow, Kincardine and all points in between. What a delightful time of year to tour around the countryside. To have such good weather and clear roads is a huge bonus. Please don’t forget, folks, that school is out for the next two weeks and there will be lots of excited youngsters out and about.

There have been so many wonderful musical evenings in our area. Folks from here enjoyed the Harp and Holly concert Thursday evening in Kincardine, The Messiah performance in Kincardine, and the musical evening at Knox Presbyterian Church in Ripley Sunday night.

Christmas Eve services are being held at the Kinlough Presbyterian Church at 8 p.m.; St Andrew's United Church in Ripley, and various churches in Kincardine and Lucknow.

Fran and Jim Farrell recently enjoyed a trip to Manitoba. They visited with Chris, Monty, Tyson and Cooper Vandesype. The weather was great, the roads good and it only got cold and snowy the last couple of days. When they left Winnipeg, it was minus–18 degrees Celsius, and they came home to a balmy minus-two degrees Celsius. Manitoba is also having an unusually warm December.

The Boyle Christmas family gathering is at the Purple Grove Community Centre, Sunday.

Shirley and Doug MacDonald were part of the Jean and John MacDonald family gathering held at the home of Donna and Perry Elliott, Saturday.

Our sincere sympathy is sent to the family of Donalda Pollard of RVilla in Ripley, and to Fern MacDonald, formerly of Lucknow.

All of the folks who attended the Purple Grove Concert Saturday night had a great time. It is encouraging to be in a crowd that ranges in age from a few months old to a lady in her 80s. Our MC, Heather Finnie, organized the youngsters who played the piano, played guitar, sang, and really entertained everyone. Irene Boyle gave a recitation that brought the house down. Colleen and James Greenwood led us in our mandatory song: “The 12 days of Christmas,” with rousing audience participation and lots of laughter. Santa showed up on his route via Ottawa and handed out gifts to the children. His helpers were Sinead and James Greenwood. Thanks to everyone for coming, to Doug MacDonald for the lovely Christmas tree, and to the Finnie family and Mary Anne Kukoly for organizing the event.
