Kincardine Legion U13 Kinucks bring home OMHA championship title
It was a thrilling weekend of hockey for the Under-13 (U13) Kincardine Legion Branch 183 “B” Kinucks as they travelled to Halton Hills to compete in the OMHA championship — and emerged victorious as tournament champions.
The action kicked off Friday with a hard-fought 3-3 tie against the Huntsville Otters. Later that same day, the Kinucks secured a 4-2 win over the Thorold Blackhawks, setting the tone for a strong tournament run.
Saturday, saw the team face off against the Petrolia Oilers, where a tight match ended in Kincardine’s favour, with a 2-1 victory. That momentum carried the team into Sunday’s semi-final, where the Kinucks defeated the East Lambton Eagles, 3-1, to punch their ticket to the final game.
In the championship match, Kincardine took on the Ennismore Eagles.
Ennismore struck first with a goal in the second period, but Kincardine came alive in the third. Ryder Dietrich tied the game early in the period, and Easton Lowry sealed the win with the game-winning goal. The stands were packed with Kinucks fans whose cheers echoed through the arena as the final buzzer sounded.
It was an electric finish to an unforgettable tournament, and the players were thrilled to bring the red hats — and the championship title — home to Kincardine.
